Keep your parents safe from phone and online scams
Older adults are often targeted by fraudsters who sound official and create panic. A quick second opinion can stop a loss before it happens.
Key facts
- Parent forwards the suspicious call detail, SMS or message on WhatsApp
- Maya reviews it and calls back right away with a plain answer
- A second opinion, not a guarantee, and never a replacement for reporting fraud
- Report fraud on the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 or cybercrime.gov.in
The scams older adults meet most
Fake bank or KYC calls, OTP requests, “digital arrest” threats from people posing as police or customs, UPI collect requests, lottery or prize messages, courier and parcel calls, and SIM or Aadhaar “blocking” threats.
Rules every parent can remember
Never share an OTP, PIN, CVV or password with anyone. A bank, police officer or government office will never ask for them. Nobody legitimate demands money to “avoid arrest”. When in doubt, hang up and ask family.
How Safe Circle helps
Fear makes it hard to think, so Hassist makes asking for help fast. Your parent shares what they received on WhatsApp, and Maya calls them back to explain whether it looks like a scam, so they are not left to decide alone under pressure.
If money has already been lost
Call 1930 immediately and report at cybercrime.gov.in, then inform the bank right away. Speed matters.
Frequently asked questions
Can Hassist stop a scam call?
No. Hassist cannot block calls. It gives your parent a quick, trusted second opinion so they do not act on a scam.
Is Safe Circle a guarantee?
No. It is a helpful second opinion and does not replace reporting fraud to the bank or police.
What is a digital arrest scam?
Fraudsters pose as police or customs officers on a call or video call and claim your parent is under “digital arrest”, demanding money. Real agencies never do this.
